BUSY WEEK NEXT WEEK : 2 shows opening!

In Belgium @charleroimuseum Symbiose Le Verre en Duo and in London @padesignart with @londonglassblowing

Symbiose is an exhibition of glass artwork by couples who collaborate. We are both showing solo sculptures alongside a new collaboration. In fact all the work we have in this exhibition is new! It kicks off on 10 October with a symposium at 9.30 am and is followed by the Private View at 6pm.

Richard will have sculptures with London Glassblowing at their inaugural stand at the Pavillion of Art and Design in London.
PAD previews and openings are 8 & 9 October and is open to the public 10 - 13 October.

Saturday was a full on GLASS day in Stourbridge at the closing of @ifog2024 . First stop @glassmuseumuk to see the New Horizons exhibition with Richard’s Final Carrier Forgotten XVI in. Swipe to see some other pieces in the show by @opalseabrook , @sbrownglass and @kente_glass . These last two won prizes at the British Glass Beinnale too - big congrats!

On to @blowfish_gallery to see their 15 x15
exhibition where glass artists were challenged to make a piece no larger than 15 x 15 xm. Thank you to @bethjadewood for opening up especially for us - Hugely grateful and a great show.

Then to the British Glass Biennale for the closing ceremony and to have a REALLY good look at all the glasswork on display. Swipe for a selected few piece that stood out by @m.ostromecka , @jessieleeart , @isabellakullmann , @martindonlinartist , @lolalazarohinks , @tracey.sheppard_ and a big thank you to @glass_hack_projects for his years of curating the BGB.

Next Lines Threads and Traces curated by @ayakotani_glass introduced us to some artists work previously unknown to us. Work by China Kobayashi shown.

Then a surprise was to see Richard’s sculpture that was purchased by the Ruskin Collection from the 2004 British Glass Biennale.

Last night we were at the opening of the 2024 British Glass Biennale @ifog2024 and a great evening it was. It was a very exciting and enthusiastic crowd with so much supurb work and as usual at these events we spent so much time talking catching up with old friends and colleagues we didn’t get to see all the glass artwork so we are definitely going back for another visit!

We are delighted to both have a solo glass sculpture each in the exhibition. Thank you to the jurors for selecting our work!

The exhibition is highly recommended for one to get to whether you are a glass aficionado or someone who has only ever looked through or drunk from a glass before.

10 years ago Sally was asked by Sky Sports to design and make The Sunday Times Sports Women of the Year awards. They wanted a female artist maker to produce them. @vitality_uk sponsored it.
Being a bit of a sports fan and having a young daughter involved in athletics at the time I was 100% into being involved in working on a project that heightened the visibility of women in sport.
I am full of admiration for the dedication and staying power of people performing in elite sport, especially women who, against the odds, have stuck with their passion and desire to do what they do!
I enjoyed the whole process, the teams @skysports and @sundaytimes were a pleasure to work with, the challenge of making all the awards exactly the same size, the excitement of knowing who was going to receive an award before they did and then my reward of going to the Awards events and meeting truly inspiring women with the stories of their sporting journeys to tell.
Winners were diverse across the award categories from athletes at the top of their sport such as @jessicaennishill and @laurakenny31 to Team of the Year Award presented to the Lionesses and the English Netball team to women who are involved in grass root community sports. Some have retired from their sport and some are still competing. @dinaashersmith won the Young Sportswoman of the Year award early in her career and the main award 4 years later and is going into the 2024 olympics looking really strong. And last but not least @helenglovergb who won an award is one of our flag bearers this year.

Did you know that in 1900 Paris Olympics only 2.2% of competitors were women and this year we have a 50/50 male female representation. I for sure am looking forward to watching the Paris Olympics and seeing so many women loving what they do best!

Richard is delighted to be a part of @contemporary_glass_society New Horizons exhibition with his brand new optical glass sculpture ‘Final Carrier Forgotten XVI’✨ Now open at The Glass Museum, Stourbridge @glassmuseumuk ✨

The New Horizons exhibition showcases contemporary glass work featuring an array of disciplines and highlighting new and innovative work and techniques.

All the work on show has either been created especially for the exhibition or is work made since 2022 but not previously exhibited. A diverse range of glassmaking processes including hot glass, casting, kiln formed, pâte de verre, lampworking, neon and stained glass.

Open from 13 July to 17 November 2024 and coinciding with the International Festival of Glass and British Glass Biennale.

We had a super time at the opening of UNFOCUS @galerie_du_verre in Biot, Côte d’Azur, France. Our huge thanks to Serge and his family for hosting yet another fantastic weekend event and inviting us to speak about our work at the symposium on Saturday.
It was special to catch up with fellow artists, some of whom we haven’t seen since before the pandemic!
The challenge of the UNFOCUS theme has been the catalyst for a new collaborative series of optical glass sculptures titled DISPERSION with the first two featured in UNFOCUS.
The exhibition runs until June 2025 so there is plenty of time for a trip to the south of France 😉
