Last night we were at the opening of the 2024 British Glass Biennale @ifog2024 and a great evening it was. It was a very exciting and enthusiastic crowd with so much supurb work and as usual at these events we spent so much time talking catching up with old friends and colleagues we didn’t get to see all the glass artwork so we are definitely going back for another visit!

10 years ago Sally was asked by Sky Sports to design and make The Sunday Times Sports Women of the Year awards. They wanted a female artist maker to produce them. @vitality_uk sponsored it.
Being a bit of a sports fan and having a young daughter involved in athletics at the time I was 100% into being involved in working on a project that heightened the visibility of women in sport.
I am full of admiration for the dedication and staying power of people performing in elite sport, especially women who, against the odds, have stuck with their passion and desire to do what they do!
I enjoyed the whole process, the teams @skysports and @sundaytimes were a pleasure to work with, the challenge of making all the awards exactly the same size, the excitement of knowing who was going to receive an award before they did and then my reward of going to the Awards events and meeting truly inspiring women with the stories of their sporting journeys to tell.
Winners were diverse across the award categories from athletes at the top of their sport such as @jessicaennishill and @laurakenny31 to Team of the Year Award presented to the Lionesses and the English Netball team to women who are involved in grass root community sports. Some have retired from their sport and some are still competing. @dinaashersmith won the Young Sportswoman of the Year award early in her career and the main award 4 years later and is going into the 2024 olympics looking really strong. And last but not least @helenglovergb who won an award is one of our flag bearers this year.

Did you know that in 1900 Paris Olympics only 2.2% of competitors were women and this year we have a 50/50 male female representation. I for sure am looking forward to watching the Paris Olympics and seeing so many women loving what they do best!

The New Horizons exhibition showcases contemporary glass work featuring an array of disciplines and highlighting new and innovative work and techniques.
All the work on show has either been created especially for the exhibition or is work made since 2022 but not previously exhibited. A diverse range of glassmaking processes including hot glass, casting, kiln formed, pâte de verre, lampworking, neon and stained glass.
Open from 13 July to 17 November 2024 and coinciding with the International Festival of Glass and British Glass Biennale.

We had a super time at the opening of UNFOCUS @galerie_du_verre in Biot, Côte d’Azur, France. Our huge thanks to Serge and his family for hosting yet another fantastic weekend event and inviting us to speak about our work at the symposium on Saturday.
It was special to catch up with fellow artists, some of whom we haven’t seen since before the pandemic!
The challenge of the UNFOCUS theme has been the catalyst for a new collaborative series of optical glass sculptures titled DISPERSION with the first two featured in UNFOCUS.
The exhibition runs until June 2025 so there is plenty of time for a trip to the south of France 😉

This new collaborative optical cast glass sculpture, DISPERSION II, is also part of this year’s exhibition, UNFOCUS, @galerie_du_verre in Biot, which opens with the PV at 7 pm tomorrow. The exhibition brings together the work of 30 artists working on the theme of UNFOCUS.
The multiple layering of images seen in this piece are quite extraordinary!

We had the good fortune to see Sally’s Eternal Exchange XXVI in the permanent collection @museeduverreconches . It is beautifully displayed in the contemporary sculpture area of the museum. It is very special to have a sculpture in the collection and I am extremely grateful to Eric Louet, the museum director (pictured in pic 2) the city of Conches en Ouch and the French Museums Collections Committee for the acquisition.
We love the museum, it is a real gem and are so happy that we had or joint exhibition, ‘Inspirer Expirer’ here last year too.
There are great exhibitions here of work by Antoine Leperlier, Josepha Gasch-Muche and a group show in the gardens at the moment - see our story today for images.
