Once a year I (Sally) have the privilege of teaching the Year 1 BA students their introduction to kiln casting @kglakademi_glass_and_ceramics on the Danish island of Bornholm.
We cover a lot in a week with the students gaining hands on knowledge through experimental experience of the processes involved in static and lost wax casting glass.
The students are always highly creative intuitive makers with intelligent hands and it is always my aim that after the course they can continue with their self directed study, finding their own visual voice making cast glass objects… should this be the path they choose.

Last chance to see SYMBIOSE , LE VERRE EN DUO - an exhibition of glass artwork by 11 couples collaborating in glass @charleroi_museum in Belgium. SYMBIOSE follows a timeline from early Czech master artists Libensky & Brychtova and Hungarian sculptors Lugossy and Bohus to further generations of contemporary artists.

DISCOVER I by Sally - a new small sculpture with alot of presence is now available from @rachelbebbcontemporary in Broughton, Hampshire. Open by appointment.
Discover I has a “through the looking glass” feel about it, you want to climb inside to discover the world you can see beyond. Discover I is cast optical glass with bright polished windows giving a view right through the middle. The volume of solid glass is defined by surrounding hewn planes created using an air driven diamond dremmel.

What better week than NATIONAL TREE WEEK to announce that LIVING COLUMN is now part of the @nationaltrust collection and will remain permanently @buscot_park

A huge sycamore planted circa 1780 inspired us to create LIVING COLUMN in 2022. It is a Jackson Fawkes collaborative glass sculpture and we ventured into the technology of jet cutting thick glass for the first time.
Trees are windows into the mechanics of life, with our survival inexorably linked to our stewardship of their care. Time is carved into the bark of these magnificent living columns, as they bear witness to the passing ages.

Buscot Park has an ongoing programme of tree planting and maintenance of the Pleasure Gardens… but you will have to wait until their 2025 season to visit now!
The Tree Council brings everyone together with a shared mission to care for trees and our planet’s future. @thetreecouncil has lots of information on its website of how to get involved with trees and has events happening this weekend.
Living Column enter was purchased through the Buscot Park Millennium Fund for future generations to enjoy.
