Two Views IV : Glass sculpture flaring out at the top with fine detailed engraving
Year : 2024
Dimensions : H79 x W43.5 x D11cm
Two Views IV , a tall glass sculpture flaring out at the top is an elegant exploration of two understandings.
The crystal clear highly polished optical glass column of the form is highly reflective with hand silvered mirrored planes on opposite sides. The mirrored areas continue to the top of the glass sculpture flaring out in different directions.
Two finely engraved repeating patterns, one on each side of the sculpture appear complex when seen over lapping each other through the transparent glass.
A further dimension is apparent when seeing the engraved patterns magnified and disappearing into the void in the concave and convex optics of the glass and mirrored surfaces.
Observing Two Views IV from one side, then the other, then returning backwards and forwards, one becomes aware of differences and similarities, both subtle and acute. There is then a third understanding, that of the two combined.
A solid space between the two opposite overlapping opaque outer planes offers a passage between the two adding further dimensions to the possibilities of outcomes and interactions.
In addition the interacting mirrored planes lead into the unknown; the possibilities extend.
